This is intentional by design: One of the constraints of a mosaic is that
its granules should have same colorModel. This means that they should have
same dataType (so you can't have a mosaic of Float granules and Byte
granules together) and same colors (so you can't have a mosaic of Gray
images and RGB images).
The strange thing is that it seems you have successfully configured a Layer
with those images whilst you should have received a message like this
"Skipping image YOURIMAGE because color models do not match.", during
mosaic configuration.
How did you configure your mosaic?
