Indeed I did try with a recent versions... hum... in theory SLD 1.1 should

As far as I know It is, and in 2.6.3 too.
I've cc'ed the authors of that part of the docs: Jody and Travis, shall we
remove that part of the docs?
Izabella is not the first user to get confused by it
