Commits related to a Jira issue should have the Jira tag in the commit message. Often these are in square brackets. See examples here: https://github.com/geoserver/geoserver/commits/master GitHub pull request titles should be names similarly (and the default is taken from the commit message for a single commit PR). Hint: in Jira, Export (button on right) / XML gives you a Jira issue tag and title in this form, ready to copy and paste. Did I mention that this discussion should be on the the geoserver-devel list?
