Hey Andrea,
I played around with 2.8.4 as well, but also noticed the same issue of the
performance hit in terms of response time where upon zooming in to the max zoom
level, the layers had difficulty rendering and couldn’t completely finish
rendering.
I did notice though that in 2.8.4 the memory usage was much more constant and
not approaching the max allocated which I believe was part of the problem with
the prior versions of 2.6 and up and that seemed to help a bit, but didn’t
solve it.
