Hi,
that "numbering" is the GML identifier, a mandatory element in GML document.
The identifier needs to be stable, like a primary key in databases.
When publishing a shapefile there is no native notion of unique key, so the
position
in the file is used.
If you want to have a different type of key and one of your attributes is
indeed
unique, you can import the data in a spatial database, mark that column as
primary
key, and it will be used to generate the gml:id instead.
Mind, when you do, that attribute will disappear from the list of "normal"
attribute
as a gml:id is not supposed to be editable (to change over time), but if
you must,
you can check the "expose primary keys" toggle in the store configuration
to have it show up in the attribute list
