Hi,
it is not clear to me what you want to achieve here.
GeoServer datastores already use pooling out of the box, they are suitably
used as is, unless
you have many stores connecting to the same database.
If that's the case, then pools configured in JNDI are a better option,
allowing to share a single pool
among several data stores in a single GeoServer instance (instead of a pool
for each data store). See here:

You are mentioning a cluster, so maybe you are looking for a solution that
uses a single pool
for the entire cluster? I've never tried to do that, but maybe a
combination of JNDI setup
and pgPool.... not sure if it's feasible and/or useful honestly, internet
seems to have
little information about this setup, see for example this thread:
