I checked the contents of the security directories/files between those you
suggested in data-2.9.zip and those I had in my 2.7 data dir.
I just insert the right baseurl in the geonodeAuthProvider/config.xml and it
works.
Now I have geonode 2.4 stable with geonode 2.9-snapshot.
I can confirm that layers that had the border (due to tne reprojection on the
fly) are well represented!!
So changing the geoserver version solved the issue.

Hi Eugenio,
try to replace the following "security" folders of your GeoServer data dir with
the one here http://build.geonode.org/geoserver/latest/data-2.9.x.zip (backup
the old ones first):
1. security\auth\geonodeAuthProvider
2. security\filter\geonodeAnonymousFilter
3. security\filter\geonodeCookieFilter
Later make sure to redo manually the GeoNode authentication filter
configuration settings on the new security folder (just do a diff of XML files
and be sure the GeoNode and GeoServer URLs are correct)

Plugins are version specific, I'd suggest you check with the GeoNode developers
if there is a version compatible
with GeoServer 2.9 and see if there is any upgrade procedure you have to follow
