I do not know if your postgres installation is damaged. Try reinstalling.

The history below indicates that you have installed Java 7. Recent 
versions of GeoServer require a minimum of Java 8:

Error messages in /var/log/tomcat7/catalina.out will confirm whether 
your Java is too old to load the GeoServer servlet.
