Hi,
it should work with GeoServer 2.11/2.12 with JAI-EXT enabled (see
http://docs.geoserver.org/stable/en/user/configuration/image_processing/index.html#jai-ext
)
Also, mind this recent bug fix:
https://osgeo-org.atlassian.net/browse/GEOT-5933
Long story short, I would not use it in 2.8, but upgrading should likely
work. Maybe perform some tests on 2.11.5 (to be relased today)
or with a nightly build of 2.12.x (or wait next month for 2.12.3)
