Hi GeoServer Experts, I am new on geoserver. We are trying to move esri to open source. I have worked with esri software for past years years. Now, I just set up a GeoServer 2.14 on my pc. It was very strange forward to get map services running with shapefile and postgis database as well. Great experiences!!
A major function in our current application is using ArcGIS Server dynamic map server with a Dynamic Workspaces. For example, our application can create a map for Foreign-Born Population after any combination of countries selected by a web user. Esri has Dynamic map services. The map services with a database connection set up called dynamic workspace. developer can pass any query string dynamically based on user needs "select country, population from table1 inner join table2 ...". The advantage of the dynamic workspace is that maps created at server side with a great performance by a query string. It is way better than graphics be generated on browser client side. Please let me know what if we move to GeoServer, how can we achieve such function to use GeoServer? Thanks in advance! Best, Tom
