The layer preview isn't intended for any kind of production use. You should probably be blocking that in deployment. 

The same open layers functionality is readily available in many demos though. You could also use qgis, udig or similar applications for a quick demo.

The reason I want to show my team that we can use Geoserver as platform to develop web maps but I want to use this as a quick start. So if there is a basemap that will be great.
