Please note that this training tutorial is provided by a commercial service 
provider that also happens to make a lot of contributions to the GeoServer 
project, but the tutorial isn't really part of GeoServer.

I don't think the tutorial is outdated. As I noted above, the data is part of 
the GeoSolutions training, not GeoServer.  While its great that they make the 
materials publicly available,  I'd recommend doing the training course if you 
have an opportunity to do so - its excellent, and taught by the people who 
really understand it.

That said, you might be able to find suitable test data in geotools (which is 
the geoserver I/O library, amongst other uses). See https://github.com/
geotools/geotools/tree/main/modules/plugin/coverage-multidim/netcdf/src/test/
resources/org/geotools/coverage/io/netcdf/test-data

I haven't checked that the samples in that directory are identical to what is 
provided in the training course, but its likely close or the same.
