This looks very good in my opinion. Although I don't have the background to judge about al facets of the "complex" API, I like what I read on this page. The distinction between "Complex FM" and "Simple FM" looks like a direct response to my moaning about having to work through difficult APIs just to process shapefiles. If I understand it correctly, "SimpleXXX" always extends "XXX" and provides convenience methods, but retains the possibility to still access all other methods, doesn't it. Makes sense. The JavaDoc improvement for J2SE 1.6 that Martin mentioned (i.e. showing all operations or hiding "advanced methods") would neatly fit in with this concept. I believe I gonna like this API.
