I would not mind going half way on this, using a more limited API for

structures that communicate between subsystems (like Filter and Feature),
while making available implementations that are more human friendly.
Ha ha - I got it figured out. We *already* have a system in place - let
me explain.
Better yet let me write this down for later, I am setting up an
"Architecture and Arrangement" page (under articles) for this kind of thing.
