Yes, I would like to try to optimize the code and see if it fits into your interfaces. There will be some code to add, since the one attached is only value reading. There is a bigger part that has colormap and creation of a ByteBuffer with colortriples for rendering, but it is rather slow and I would like to see how you guys do that.
