Great! To answer your question the "Repository" is used for cross
DataStore operations (like "unlock").
This is different from catalog which actually allows you to bring all
the geotools resources together (Grid, Data, and Services).
I usually call the "Selection Model" the "Query Model" - since selection
often means something else in client applications.
In XML we have XML Documents (data), XML Schema (meta) and XPointer
(data access) and XPath (query language).
In GeoTools we have Features (data), Feature Model (meta) and Expression
(data access) and Filter (query language).
