The main thing I lack, due largely to my own failure to keep close track of
the FM effort, is a warm fuzzy that I understand the relationship between
Features and Coverages in GT. I think I have a pretty good handle on how
the ISO 19100 / OGC standards view the issue. I just don't understand new
FM well enough to be convinced that I can faithfully execute that
relationship in practice.
Please talk more, I have followed your primer in the definition of the OpperationType, but I lack context for how
you plan to use that when implementing coverage.
I am particularly concerned about the issues of reading and writing
Coverages. In fact, the GML-in-J2K format already requires that a single
reader be capable of returning both "features" and "gridded coverage data".
It would seem to me that the relationship between features and coverages in
GT must be nailed down prior to making any kind of coverage I/O framework.
Right, well this one is easy - we are not changing anything in terms of the DataStore workflow at this time. GeoAPI does have some improvements (in locking), and some backtracks (no representation of "table" separate from content),
that we can explore much much later.
We can use the current grid coverage exchange for the moment, but I think
it's pretty safe to assume that it will not stand the test of time... :)
I am sorry I though you guys had already planned to replace it? I need to point out that defining, or changing, the
input output API is out of scope for the FM work.

We are simply working on Feature and FeatureType (and associated friends), IO remains unchanged.
