Here's a quick question for you, jody. When is udig planning on transitioning to the FM? I'm not sure if you have a enough info to answer that, but what does your gut say?
I have been waiting for a clear progress on FM, much like you.
Stated back in November that we would be uDig unstable onto the FM at the same time as GeoServer so that both projects could help make it stable. I stand by that statement. I am interested in knowing when this will be ... hence the research this week, and hopefully a plan to which we can pool resources.
But I have no "mandate" for this, given the number of bug reports against shapefile, postgis, oracle and arcsde being out of the build. There is lots of other important work to be done. While I look to the module maintainers for leadership on this one I find my patience strained when I review any JDBCDatastore code (so many hacks, and they conflict!)
We are at a cross roads Dave, the library needs to be stable and move forward. Going forward is at impasse waiting for the FM, and stability is at an impasse waiting on build machines and a working build process. Both of these require a will to proceed ... and I am happy to see progress being made on both.
