In todays IRC meeting we were unable to find a volunteer to fix maven 1 build issues for 2.2.x.
The 2.2.x release was the last release scheduled to work with Maven 1, in a surprising turnaround Maven 2 actually works, and works well, leaving us without the capacity to maintain the Maven 1 build system. It should be noted that the Maven 1 build system has not been maintained since September of last year, and is not in a state fit to make releases. If anyone would like to step forward at this time they are more then welcome, if not we will remove references to Maven 1 from our developers guide and retire it after 3 years of good service.
