The Grid abstrations we are running right now are from an OGC 
specification.  GeoTools 2.5 has a round of research into ISO based 
n-dimensional grid coverages scheduled. This same ISO specification is 
somehow related to the OGC specification, so the abstraction of 
"GridCoverage" should not require much in the way of tweaking.

With respect to data access there has been a request to "do something" 
other then the Grid Coverage Exchange interface we are using now, at 
present no proposals have been made.

There is a GTSteering.pdf document, but it just mentions the schedule.
