Should be ok, the old 2.2.2 poms should be overwritten as long as they
are not marked as SNAPSHOT.

Hmm, yeah something must be a miss here. At the point there the release
plugin checks out the tag, all the pom versions on the tag should
already be non-snapshot ( 2.2.2 in this case ).

The ever so lofty goal of an easy release process :). I fear that any
release process we come up with will be complex. Perhaps we could make
it simpler with a maven plugin.
