Hmm, yeah something must be a miss here. At the point there the release plugin checks out the tag, all the pom versions on the tag should already be non-snapshot ( 2.2.2 in this case ).

I simply loose concentration... The ever so lofty goal of an easy release process :). I fear that any release process we come up with will be complex.
