Martin there are four SRS syntax's in use: 1) WKT 2) EPSG:4326 (take a guess and provide a way for users to override) 3) URN ogc (believe the EPSG database) 4) URN x-ogc (x,y ....)
So all the hard work we put into making every option available now has a way to be unambiguously asked for by services. That harder question is when services will start to know about this ...
