Hi Saul, A while back I rewrote the postigs sql encoder to work strictly against the geoapi filter interfaces. The encoder and an extensive test case for it are attached to this jira task.
http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOT-1089 The test case contains examples of how to build the various types of filters, while the encoder has examples of how to traverse the information in them.
