I'd be happy to use those classes for time. I wasn't really seriously
we come up with our own time classes - more trying to get at what
Justin's approach would do when existing java classes don't offer the
level of granularity that XML might need.

In my mind this isn't so much about building it to a particular exchange
format - it's just making our model more granular. There are a number
of different java objects for dates and times, but we squash them all in
to one Temporal Attribute Type. This is just letting that attribute
Type have knowledge of a few more types.
Would the solution be to make new Java classes that better deal with the
granular information? I think that could work with this if need be...
we could extend Date to be particular kinds of dates.
Chris, before you begin work on this, please checkout and evaluate the
19108 implementation referenced on
http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOT-1186. I believe the interfaces are
already in GeoAPI pending. Actually, if you find it valuable, could you
consider that code to be a "patch" submitted to GeoTools by Alex in order
to begin the process of granting him commit access?
Please don't make up Java time classes. We already have them, at least we
have interfaces...We're supposed to use them for time (ala ISO 19109), and
it sounds like there's no time like the present. (groan) Java time classes
are not the reference. 19108 interfaces are. :)
If you like, but want more documentation, 19108 is one of the "cheap" ISO
standards for Americans. Go online with your credit card and $30 (US)
later, you download a "watermarked" PDF to your desktop.

If I recall correctly, "TemporalAttributeType" should become any child of
"org.opengis.temporal.TemporalGeometricPrimitive".
