+1 for me, but please delay the change against 2.3.x since we're about 
to release Geoserver 1.5.0. Geoserver 1.5.1 and Geoserver 1.6.0 will 
greatly benefit from this change thought, many thanks for pursuing this
(Andrea starts to feel again the log4j nirvana :-))
