Michael,

It looks like Jody has gotten you off to a good start. I should be around
from now until May 28th, so if you have a question while Jody is gone you
can ask me. My personal e-mail is [EMAIL PROTECTED] and I'm also
subscribed to the GeoTools mailing list.

I'm very new to GeoTools myself, but I should be able to help you with
questions you might have about the Java programming language and GIS
programming in general. I think we'll need to rely on Jody or other GeoTools
developers for answers to more specific questions. Basically, I'll be
learning the GeoTools code base with you!

Have you subscribed to the GeoTools Summer of Code mailing list? If you
haven't done that please let me know and I'll provide you a link to do so.
What about the GeoTools development list? We need to get you subscribed to
that as well, if you aren't subscribed already.

I look forward to working with you this summer.

Feel free to contact me if you want to discuss some ideas for your project.

The Sunburned Surveyor

P.S. - Let me know about those mailing lists.

Congratulations and Welcome to GeoTools Summer of Code.

Your proposal "3-Dimensional Rendering Pipeline Component for GIS
Servers" was selected.

My name is Jody Garnett and I have the pleasure of being one of your
mentors over the course of the summer. Landon is your other mentor (he
will introduce himself shortly), most of the time we will use the
development list for communication.

I am located in the Victoria, Canada (Pacific Time Zone) so a lot of our
communication will be via email, IRC and so on. There are a few details,
including contact info, about myself here:

    * http://docs.codehaus.org/display/~jive
      <http://docs.codehaus.org/display/%7Ejive>

I understand that your project will not start until May 28th, I am going
on holiday but will be back by then. There are a few things you can do
to get ready.

Read the Developers Guide:

    * http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOT/Home^
    * checkout and compile GeoTools

The developers guide has detail on how to check out and compile, and
covers a lot of the steps we will take during your first week:
requesting an unsupported module, obtaining svn access, and so on.
Considering the nature of your proposal we may wish to run your project
as a spike in svn (at least for the server side of things). There may be
an opertunity to participate in the GeoServer project but we will jump
off that bridge when we come to it.

When your project starts there will be a couple of ways to make progress
visible to the community. We ask you to make a blog entry (on the
GeoTools site) and attend the weekly IRC meeting. There will also be a
wiki page and issue tracker for your module.

For right now it would be great if you subscribed to the developers
email list:

    * http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOTOOLS/Mailing+Lists^

Once subscribed you can send an email introducing yourself to the
community, and then I recommend lurking until your finals are done.

Cheers,
^ Jody Garnett <http://docs.codehaus.org/display/%7Ejive>
