Martin, could you open up a rather generic JIRA for GIF in imageworker. There is a lot of code in GeoServer that does real fast dithering in and which also does inversio of color map. I have some code as well to do animated GIFs. I would like to backport the code from geoserver as well as to commit the animated gif code.
