Hey all,

I've opened http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOT-1691

Attached to the JIRA are a tarball (to be unrolled from the root of your
2.4.x checkout directory) and a patchfile. Both are required parts of
the changes. Anyone who has a chance to try out the patch and/or review
the code would be much appreciated. Geoserver doesn't need to be
modified...just use some of the awesomeness of RasterSymbolizer and
you'll get the results for free.

I'd like to get this work applied to 2.4.x right after 2.4.0 goes out
the door, and I can commit my time to doing that (heck, it's all there
and passing tests.)

I'd also like to get this applied to trunk as soon as possible, but I
can't commit my time to that just yet (although I *may* be able to get
to it eventually).

Is there anyone else out there who'd like to bring this stuff to trunk?
It's good stuff...allows for awesome raster processing and the code is
all there and done and everything. In fact, I haven't even tried just
doing a big-ol "patch -p0 < patchfile" and seeing if it works (I was too
afraid), so it may be easy to apply!

If there is enough concern about this, I'm willing to help the
GeoSolutions crowd put together a proposal page, but there is zero api
breakage, and only a slight amount of api additions (all within
standards) so I don't think there should be any reason for a more
heavyweight process.

Comments and suggestions welcome. In the absence of any concerns, I'll
plan to apply to 2.4.x as soon as 2.4.0 goes out the door.

thanks all,
--saul
