Hey, I haven't fully absorbed all the issues, but I did skim over the irc logs, and thought I'd comment on one thing.

I don't think it's worth doing backflips to maintain backwards compatibility at this point in time. We're already breaking the api with the SimpleFeature change. If we'd already released that then I'd be really hesitant to do anything to break backwards compatibility. Users of GeoTools are already going to have change their code. If we have an API that we like better now is the time to use it, even if there's another slight change. And I'm one who's really against breaking backwards compatibility, but in this case I don't think it needs to weigh on the decision much as long as it's something small and sensible.

I'm not favoring one proposal or another, I haven't really read everything. I'm just saying as a criteria for deciding I wouldn't place backwards compatibility very high at this point.

best regards,

Chris

Hi all,

As stated in the previous message the proposal is ready for your
evaluation.

I'm calling for a breakout IRC meeting to discuss it, as agreed at
yesterdays geoserver irc meeting.

The proposed date and time is Feb. 7th, 2007: 17:00 UTC
<http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/meetingdetails.html?year=2008&month=
2&day=7&hour=17&min=0&sec=0&p1=141&p2=179&p3=240&p4=215>

That time seemed to work for most of us at yesterday's meeting, yet acuster
already told he wouldn't be able to attend.

Feel free to raise your concerns if you can't too so we can arrange for a
different time/date, though keep it mind it'd be nice to sort it out over
this week.

Best regards,

Gabriel.
