Hey all, The geotools community would like to cleanup its repository and we are ready to do the work.
uDiggers, this should have *no impact* on you since we are, for now, planning to leave everything in place the way it is. You are being notified because eventually uDig will probably want to undergo a similar process of cutting itself loose from the joint repo morass. Refractions admins, thanks for your work so far. Things are looking good on this end. The proposal page (link below) lays out what should happen. On your end, we merely need a new repository against which we can work. Chris said this should work for you. I presume you will keep the repo on the same server that svn.geotools.org points to but give it a different name. If not, we'll need the new address. Once the geotools community has agreed on a final procedure and planned a time, I'll contact you specifically and schedule it with you. FWIW, I am currently proposing the middle of next week but this is low priority and flexible depending on your schedule and that of the various geotools user groups so that's only a proposed date if no has any preference. Geotools folk, With help all around, I've been developing a procedure to cut through the joint uDig/Geotools repo and extract just Geotools. Things look good---we are down to half the size (3 GB -> 1.4 GB). I've written up an explanation of the work as a proposal since the effort impacts everyone and shuts down the old repo. The page is http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOTOOLS/Svn+Cleanup+2008 for those who are interested. Jody, I presume we can use your authentication mechanism to keep people out of the old repo once we switch. Is that correct? Hopefully we can talk about this on Monday's IRC. By then, try to figure out what your concerns are and what your schedule looks like so we can solve the issues and schedule the work. If you can't make the IRC, this is the place for discussion. cheers, adrian ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by the 2008 JavaOne(SM) Conference Don't miss this year's exciting event.
