The section that covered naming conventions when I first joined the 
project was this:

And there was a tool (PMD) that was able to check.

PMD use has died over time; but I find that FindBugz is great. Would it 
be good to add Findbugz to the into the mix in order to catch 
unconventional names; and a range of NPE problems?

At the very least can I recommend FindBugz be run as part of an 
unsupported/module being brought into the library.
