The downside is the inability to switch over without a clean deprecation 
cycle - but you are aware of all that and the module maintainer so it is 
your call ;-) how is your review going - my fear is we are going to 
throw out that work because you are never going to have time...

But I agree we cannot hold up the 2.5.x release train.
