Hum, an interesting build failure:
> Running org.geotools.referencing.factory.epsg.DefaultFactoryTest
> Dec 28, 2008 8:24:24 AM java.util.prefs.FileSystemPreferences$7 run
> WARNING: Prefs file removed in background
> /home/tomcat/.java/.userPrefs/org/geotools/referencing/wkt/prefs.xml
> Tests run: 14, Failures: 1, Errors: 0, Skipped: 0, Time elapsed: 2.414 sec
> <<< FAILURE!
And the junit report being:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Test set: org.geotools.referencing.factory.epsg.DefaultFactoryTest
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tests run: 14, Failures: 1, Errors: 0, Skipped: 0, Time elapsed: 2.414
sec <<< FAILURE!
testConversions(org.geotools.referencing.factory.epsg.DefaultFactoryTest)
Time elapsed: 0.01 sec <<< FAILURE!

It seems the prefs.xml file has been removed by "something" and that
caused the returned projection to be equal, but not same as the
one expected?
Cheers
