Extend FeatureCollection by adding getDescriptor()
--------------------------------------------------

                 Key: GEOT-2385
                 URL: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOT-2385
             Project: GeoTools
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: core main
            Reporter: Ben Caradoc-Davies
            Assignee: Ben Caradoc-Davies

The name of a WFS feature type is not in general the same as the name of the
XML schema complex type that defines its content model. When GeoServer invokes
an OutputFormat, it has no access to the WFS feature type name, only the name
that can be determined from the FeatureCollection.getSchema(), which is the
content model type name. The solution proposed by Jody on the mailing list is
to add FeatureCollection.getDescriptor() to allow access to the underlying
descriptor. See the mailing list discussion:
http://n2.nabble.com/Broken-GML3OutputFormat-feature-type-name-assumption-td2465297.html

(I lodged this issue for gt-main, but it belongs in gt-api, which has no Jira
component).

Patch is under development.
