The renderer uses a simple coordinate offset based algorithm. But I don't want to "agree" on this, every source will be free to implement the generalization as it sees fit, provided it honors the two hints. Allowing the hints to control which algorithms to use will just make the implementation impossible in some cases (what if you database backend does not provide the, say, Peuker algorithm you asked for?)
