I have hit a snag - the 2.6-M2 tag no longer builds from source -
failing on the same two shapefile tests that got trunk earlier in the
week. I am not sure what has changed on me here; I have tried multiple
versions of Java and different machines etc...

With this in mind I can either patch the 2.6-M2 release; or make a 2.6-M3.

Andrea is looking over a style patch for me that completes my review
of the style interfaces; making sure all the setter methods are there;
that a factory method exists to build the things etc. With this in
mind I would like to try tagging a 2.6-M3 - with the hopes of also
addressing the source artifact generation problem.
