Mind that below the datastore interface nothing is supposed to be any reusable or user friendly or even documented, if it happens, it's by accident and/or because the developer tried to leave some docs for her own use when she looks at the code months later. The only thing really exposed by a datastore module is the datastore itself, I would not expect developers to have cared about the reusability of anything else in the module.
