Hey Andrea Hmm, guess I should have pointed these out before: - Never mind the labeling: it was done "by hand" - yes, the labels are vectors! The data already came to us like that, our job is just to render it nicely - Ahm, never mind the icons with call-outs either: they are also just vectors lying there (sorry to disappoint you). Actually, implementing real call-outs is on our wish-list, but it's not a priority.
Anyways, the quality is for real, no tricks there! Oh yes, just to make it clear: all the icons in the map are SVG ExternalGraphics (the birds, crabs, fish, etc). Only the background color of the colored icons is an additional Circle Symbolizer.
