If you think you can get the changes in by this release i think that would
be fine but I also think that since this is a beta some api added for the
next beta or rc would be fine as well. I would say RC is when api should
freeze, but just my opinion.

I also think pushing back to gt 2.7.1 is fine as well since in the past we
have done api additions mid release branch, i think as long as it does not
break any existing api (ignoring subclasses since it is not a class
typically implemented by client code) it is fine.

So I leave it to you :)
