Hi Andrea and Ian, I'm following this discussion with great interest. I've also fallen prey to the difficulty of pixel by pixel comparison across different platforms in the past.
I'm afraid I don't have any independent suggestions but I'd certainly support using a tool like PerceptualDiff regardless of it only being possible for a subset of platforms / contexts. Meanwhile, I'll read the docs and the JIP Cookbook page.
