I think the utility classes can be merged as is in the data module.
The store... it's a long story. I have no funding so I'd have to make it in
my spare time, but what I'd like to get out of it is a configurable subsystem
to create grid layers in GeoServer.... but for display purposes, as in,
lines that can be labelled, meridians and parallels, not polygons.

I plan to start a discussion on this one (store or whatever) one of
these weekends, when I have time to think about it and write down
some ideas about it.
