Hi!
I have done a lot of this work on a private branch of GeoTools, by porting
the org.geotools.arcsde plugin to supporting FGDBs.
I have managed to port most of it, keeping the same structure and API as the
arcsde plugin.
The work was so laborious (especially the filter mapping), that I did not
get to sort out any runtime problems and to implement unit tests. The same
goes with implementing a dummy API.
The work is about 6 month old, and not in sync with trunk. I can push it to
my git clone if you want to take a look at it. It has the standard geotools
license, so you are free to use it as you wish.
