Hum... I guess nothing prevents you from branching off a tag previous to the
wfs 2.0 changes landed
and go from there.
To the average GeoServer developer that new "stable" branch would be more or
less just additional
overhead though, we don't have a GeoServer series to base on it, and we
would still have to back
port fixes to 2.7.x (with the new 8.x being extra work).
If you need it though no problem, just not expect everybody to rush and do
last minute fixes
that would get us to whatever is perceived as a release status.
My gut feeling is that with such a new branch the other developers will try
to backport
as little as possible and work mostly on the new trunk, with the new stable
branch left mostly
to the udig devs to play with (and maybe Michael too, provided he feels he's
done with the
swing changes, I keep on seeing jiras popping up so I'm not too sure about
it).
