In any case we should really update that proposal with the tasks
needed for this work to get done. I suspect that we can do this work
in a couple of stages; so you don't get a single patch that takes
forever to review. It will also help to take a break when the initial
API is available, to allow downstream code to be updated /
implementations to take shape and so forth.

Niels how is this one going? I changed its parent page to "proposals"
so it would show up ... I notice the page is pretty light on detail,
and has not collected enough votes to proceed.
Now that GeoTools 8 is out we should have a bit more of a chance to
collaborate; would you be up for an IRC session this week to sort out
the interface changes? When I was last paying attention the
ReferencedEnvelope class changes were getting sorted out; and I was
still having trouble explaining that no change to the BBox filter is
needed.
