Hi Kevin,

Thanks for this. Just had a quick look at your patch. Hope to have a
proper look later.

I'm particularly interested in the rasterizing elements. Do you see
these as eventually replacing the existing VectorToRasterProcess ?
That class has a list of long-standing issues and needs either a major
rewrite or replacement with something better.

Originally we had a RasterToVectorProcess in GeoTools. The guts of
that were re-written as a more flexible and reliable JAI operation to
become Vectorize in the JAITools library...

http://jaitools.org/docs/jaitools/stable/apidocs/org/jaitools/media/jai/vectorize/VectorizeDescriptor.html

...which Andrea then wrapped in the GeoTools PolygonExtractionProcess
for geo-spatial use.

My ambition with the sadly neglected VectorToRasterProcess was to
follow the same path. You can probably see where this is heading :)
Perhaps your rasterizing code could be generalized into a JAI
operation for JAITools - what do you think ?

Michael

PS. apologies for hijacking the discussion of heat maps
