Since I work heavily with geological maps, I am going to be cheering this one. However, what happens to fill when a polygon crosses a tile boundary? Somehow you are going to need your micro pattern component to be placed so drawing it will not cross the boundary. Some of those patterns would not do well. It would look a lot better if spacing between micro-symbols was say 1.5 micro-symbol size. Your "random-space-around" should be in terms of micro-symbol size rather than an absolute measurement. How do you do 601 with two micro-symbols?
