Hi,
during the current work break I've run a fair number of benchmarks (detailed
on the GeoServer lists, see these threads:
http://osgeo-org.1560.x6.nabble.com/Some-interesting-optmizations-from-Jonathan-s-load-test-td5095839.html
http://osgeo-org.1560.x6.nabble.com/PostGIS-ST-Simplify-over-the-FOSS4G-2010-benchmark-shall-we-enable-it-by-default-td5096367.html
(and btw, notice that I'm proposing to enable the usage of ST_Simplify any
time the Hints.GEOMETRY_DISTANCE
hint is provided in the Query)
While I was at it, and since there has been requests to upgrade our aging
postgresql driver,
I've run the postgis related benchmarks against the old and new driver,
using two benchmarks:
* the FOSS4G 2010 one, that has "light" maps (not very much drawn in each
request)
* Warwishire sample benchmark, opposite end of the spectrum, rather busy
maps instead
The numbers in both cases are pretty much the same, with deviations that
globally are within 5% above
or below, and in average, pretty close to 1% deviation.
So, I'd be in favor of upgrading the driver to the newest version,
9.3-1100-jdbc41, on the master
series (which is going to be released as beta in two weeks)
Opinions?
Cheers
Andrea
