In AbstractGridFormat and ImageMosaicFormat getReader eats the log messages (at a FINE log level) and returns null if something goes wrong. It would be nice if it adheared to the the GeoTools guidelines (http://docs.geotools.org/latest/developer/conventions/code/null.html) and didn't do this.
