Never! If I recall correctly, Java 1.0 to 1.1 *doubled* the memory 
footprint of the JVM on Linux and drove me into Python-land for a 
decade. I could not upgrade my poor old 486 fast enough. Software 
upgrades exist to enrich hardware manufacturers.  :-|
