Yes, Boundless is still interested in having YSLD move from geoserver-exts
to GeoTools.
As a GeoTools/GeoServer dev, I also want to bring up one other minor note -
A few months back, I added some support to GeoServer for generating styles
in any format (including YSLD). This functionality (available from the
Styles page in the GeoServer UI) should ideally still function after YSLD
is ported to geotools. See https://github.com/geoserver/geoserver/pull/1182
and https://github.com/boundlessgeo/geoserver-exts/pull/100 for more
details on this.
